Dane County Regional Airport’s Snow Removal Equipment Facility will seek LEED Silver certification
Madison, Wis. – Miron Construction Co., Inc. recently broke ground on Dane County Regional Airport’s new 58,800-square-foot Snow Removal Equipment Facility. The roof of the facility will house a photovoltaic system that will generate the annual energy usage of 12 typical American homes, thus making it the largest municipal solar project in the state.
The airport works toward reducing its environmental footprint by continuously developing and implementing new environmental conservation plans and strategies. Its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsibility makes it the perfect partner for Miron.

In addition to the solar panel system, the project will include many environmentally-friendly features, including:
* Water-efficient plumbing fixtures that will provide a 40 percent reduction in potable water use
*CO and NO2 sensors that will automatically control the air flow based on the occupancy of the building, thus making the mechanical systems 40 percent more efficient than a standard building
*The maximization of natural daylight to save energy
*Geothermal heating and cooling system
The facility is designed for LEED Silver certification, which will ensure energy savings, greenhouse gas emission reductions, water efficiency, improved indoor air quality and increased recycling and material use. The maintenance building, which will house more than 26 pieces of essential snow removal equipment, is projected for completion in the fall of 2013.
