MICHAEL BEST WELCOMES FIVE ASSOCIATES

Milwaukee, WI (November 5, 2013) – The law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is pleased to announce the addition of five new associates to the firm’s Madison and Milwaukee offices:

Holly E. Courtney joined the Madison office as an associate in the firm’s Employment Relations Practice Group. Courtney most recently worked as a research assistant for Dean Joseph D. Kearney at Marquette University Law School. She also gained experience as a law clerk for a Brookfield, Wisconsin-based law firm where she researched and wrote legal memoranda, drafted various transactional and litigation documents and assisted with discovery production. Her additional experience includes serving as a mediator in the Milwaukee County Circuit Court Small Claims Division; a judicial intern to the Honorable David T. Prosser, Jr. with the Wisconsin Supreme Court; and a law clerk for a Milwaukee law firm. Courtney received her B.A. in history and political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned her J.D., cum laude, from Marquette University Law School.

Tanya M. Salman joined the Madison office as an associate in the Litigation Practice Group. Prior to joining Michael Best, Salman worked at the University of Wisconsin Law School as the assistant director of admissions and financial aid. Her previous experience includes serving as a volunteer intern for the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee; an intern for the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office; a student attorney for the Wisconsin Innocence Project; and a student intern and investigator for the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office. Salman received her B.A. in political science and Spanish from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Anne Carroll joined the Milwaukee office as an associate in the firm’s Employment Relations Practice Group. Prior to joining Michael Best, Carroll worked as a legal research and writing instructor for the University of Minnesota Law School. She also served as an intern and government service civilian employee at the Global Innovation and Strategy Center, and as a law clerk at TCF Financial Corporation. Carroll received her B.A., summa cum laude, in political science and Spanish from Creighton University and her J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, in 2013 from the University of Minnesota Law School.

Serene R. Sahar joined the Milwaukee office as an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Sahar began with Michael Best as a summer associate in 2013. Prior to joining the firm, she worked for the Milwaukee Circuit Court as a law clerk for Honorable Judge Kevin E. Martens. In 2010, Sahar was a bioethics program assistant for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation where she created bioethics programs for the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery and the Morgridge Institute for Research. Her previous experience also includes serving as a law clerk for the UW System Administration – Office of General Counsel; an extern for Honorable Judge Charles Clevert at the United States District Court – Eastern District of Wisconsin; an intellectual property assistant for the UW Center for Education Research; and an extern for the Wisconsin Department of Justice. She received her B.A. in mathematics, cum laude, from Lawrence University and earned her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Timothy J. Teicher joined the Milwaukee office as an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Prior to joining Michael Best, Teicher worked at a St. Paul, Minnesota-based intellectual property law firm. As a summer associate, he drafted provisional and utility applications, as well as responses to U.S. and E.P.O. office actions. During law school he also served as: research assistant at the National Bureau Economic Research; student legal counsel at the University of Minnesota’s Medical Devices Center; and student associate at the University of Minnesota’s Office for Technology Commercialization – Engineering and Physical Sciences Business Unit. Teicher received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota – Institute of Technology, and earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School.
