Milwaukee, WI (May 1, 2013) – Michael Best is proud to announce that partners J. Donald Best, Luke W. DeMarte, Charles A. Laff, Jonathan H. Margolies, Kevin P. Moran, David R. Price and David B. Smith have been named “IP Stars” for 2013 by Managing Intellectual Property. IP Stars are chosen through over 1000 interviews and surveys, conducted by the Managing Intellectual Property research team. The distinction is a new addition this year to the World IP Handbook and Survey.
Best is a trial lawyer and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group. He has many years of experience handling complex, high profile IP cases for clients in a wide variety of industry sectors.
DeMarte is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group who focuses his practice in trademark, copyright and entertainment law.
Laff, a partner, has had a long and extensive career in representing clients in all phases of intellectual property law. Much of his work relates to intellectual property litigation, where he has been lead trial and appellate counsel in hundreds of lawsuits involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and unfair competition in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
Margolies, a partner in our Milwaukee office, practices primarily in the area of intellectual property litigation, and represents large commercial clients in patent cases, trademark cases, unfair competition cases and trade libel cases.
Moran is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, a member of the Management Committee and leader of the firm’s Advanced Manufacturing Industry Group. His practice includes the acquisition and enforcement of United States and foreign patents, with an emphasis on mechanical, electro-mechanical and biomedical technologies.
Price is a partner and former Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. He focuses on U.S. and foreign patent and trademark prosecution and licensing, as well as product design and development counseling.
Smith is a senior partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. Having practiced intellectual property law for more than 35 years, he has earned a reputation as a leading practitioner among peers and clients alike.
