Madison, Wisconsin (December 20, 2013) – Elias “Eli” R. Swanson has joined the Madison office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group.

Swanson is experienced in preparing and prosecuting domestic and foreign utility, process and design patent applications in several areas, including: mechanical, electrochemical, control systems, medical devices, agricultural equipment and renewable energy. He counsels clients in the strategic development of intellectual property portfolios and is well versed in patentability, infringement, clearance and validity analysis.

Prior to joining Michael Best, Swanson was an intellectual property attorney at law firms in Madison and Iowa. He also spent six years in the forest products industry, engaging in operations management, quality control, product development and process engineering at several pulp and paper manufacturing facilities.

Swanson received his B.S. in paper science and engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, and earned his J.D., with High Honors, from Drake University Law School.
