The Super Late Model Triple Crown Challenge returns to Madison International Speedway on Sunday, July 14th with second round action on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile. Pit gates will open at 10:00 AM with practice starting at 11:30 AM, qualifying at 1:15, and racing at 2:30 PM.

In addition to the Super Late Models, the Club La Mark Midwest Trucks and Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends will also be in action all running for track championship points.

The Super Late Models will be competing in the Evie Handeland 100, an event that honors a long-time MIS employee and track neighbor since the facility was built in the early 1950’s.

Casey Johnson took home the checkered flag in the first round back on June 16th. Johnson edged Nick Murgic to pick up the victory and the points lead going into the second round. The young driver from the Stoughton area has proven he can win on any track whether it be a touring series or weekly racing event. To make his win at Madison even sweeter was the fact that he started fourteenth in the 99 lap main event.

Johnson shows the way in the point standings with 108 followed by Murgic with 101, Rich Bickle Jr. and Gary Lamonte with 88, and Rick Corso with 79. Rounding out the top ten are Blake Brown and Jamie Wallace each with 76, Matt Kocourek with 72, Jeremy Spoonmore with 67 and Bobby Kendall with 65. The overall champion of the Super Late Model Triple Crown Challenge will take home $5000 at the end of the season.

Twenty-six drivers were on hand for the first round with more expected for Round #2 including Travis Sauter who has won seven straight at MIS but was forced to sit out the first round due to engine troubles.

Competing drivers in all three divisions are also eligible for nearly $100,000 in contingencies this season thanks to Madison’s partnership with Contingency Connection. Sunday’s race will be presented by Bully Dog who will be adding a total of $1000 in contingencies for the drivers. A pair of $250 awards and one $500 award will be presented to three eligible drivers.

The Club La Mark Midwest Trucks will be competing in their third event of the 2013 season at MIS with Jerry Wood and Chester Ace the victors in the first two races. Wood is the current point leader with 221 followed by Chad Knaus (196), John Wood (187), Natalie Decker (180), and Jacob Van Wazer (166).

Aaron Moyer is two for two in the Pellitteri Waste Systems Legends and sits on top of the leader board with 229 points. Cory Talaska is second with 210 points followed by Andy Jones (209), Kevin Griffin (180), and Chris Lishamer (173).

An open practice session will be held on Saturday, July 13th from Noon – 5:00 PM with pit passes being $20.00. Contact Dave Grueneberg at 608.513.2278 for information about overnight camping.
