Jobless rate drops to 6.5 percent in October

The state’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.5 percent in October, down from 6.6 percent in September, according to monthly job statistics.

DWD said it was the state’s lowest seasonally adjusted rate since December 2008.

The monthly job numbers also showed a gain of 11,900 overall jobs last month and a gain of 12,400 private sector jobs. The data showed 6,000 jobs were gained in the manufacturing sector.

The job figures also included revisions of August and September numbers, which reduced August’s job gains by 2,700 jobs. September didn’t have a preliminary job estimate due to the government shutdown, but based on revised August figures and final September numbers, the state lost 200 jobs that month.
