Brookfield, Wis. – J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. (Cullen) was recently recognized by The Daily Reporter for serving as the construction manager for three Top Projects of 2012. The Lapham Park Revitalization Project, UW-Whitewater Laurentide Hall and the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Family Care Center were among thirty notable projects from across the state that will be recognized as a Top Project during the May 2 awards banquet at the Harley Davidson Museum in downtown Milwaukee.

The Lapham Park Revitalization Project encompassed renovating the existing eight-story 165,000 sq. ft. assisted living apartment building. The renovation included demolition of all existing apartments into high efficiency, one and two bedroom apartments. The project was submitted by the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) and recognized as a Top Project, because of its positive impact on the surrounding community and the collaborative efforts of the owner, architect, construction manager, and subcontractors. This project utilized over 125,000 man hours and enlisted over 35 different contractors on site.

UW-Whitewater Laurentide Hall was an important change for the University. By repurposing and updating a once outdated campus academic building, the University can now better meet the current and future academic needs for student, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. The building had not been significantly upgraded since 1972 and had been vacant since the College of Business Education moved in 2009. Laurentide Hall now houses the College of Letters and Science, faculty offices, research labs, conference rooms, a café, and space for student organizations. “Laurentide Hall is a total transformation that brings light into the interior of the building and provides gathering spaces and study spaces for students, as well as space for the student organizations that are connected to the departments in the building,” said Mary Pinkerton, dean of the College of Letters and Sciences.

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Family Care Center meets an important need in a community that has an estimated 8,000 people that deal with a shortage of primary care in the area. This facility provides high-quality innovative family medicine to those in need by providing the community with 28 examination rooms, three procedure rooms, a education conference room, an after-hours community education room, physician offices, an exercise area, a demonstration kitchen, and an education garden that will serve as a community garden and provide a space dedicated to the heath education for their patients and community. The Family Care Center has been a source of high quality health care for low-income residence for more than 36 years.

The Top Projects of 2012 were selected by the editors and publishers of The Daily Reporter and are based on a number of criteria, such as: a commitment to sustainable practices, positive impact to surrounding areas, use of innovative construction, overcoming challenges, and much more.
