APPLETON, WIS. (Oct. 31, 2013) Serving multiple industries across the United States and internationally as an independent testing laboratory, Fox Cities-based IPS Testing completed a major expansion at its Appleton headquarters this month as a result of continued business growth in various sectors.

The company – specializing in hundreds of physical and analytical testing methods as well as interpretive data analysis for everything from paper products to nonwovens, personal care products, medical supplies and food packaging – will now be able to offer flushability testing services with the additional space.

IPS Testing worked with building owner and developer, Romenesko Developments, Inc., to complete the 4,000 square-foot expansion, which consists of nearly 20 percent more physical testing and warehouse space.

Equipped with a full simulator and other testing equipment, the new space allows IPS Testing to carry out flushability testing – something that is becoming much more prevalent with the growth of the disposable wipes industry. IPS is now set up to complete all seven tests created by the Association of the Nonwovens Fabrics Industry (INDA) and its European Disposables and Nonwovens Association (EDANA) affiliate.

“As we move into other markets and grow our service line, this extra space was greatly needed,”said Chris Reitmeyer, vice president of IPS Testing. “The demand for flushability testing is there and we are ready to fill it. IPS Testing will be one of just three independent testing labs in the world to offer the full range of these specialty tests.”

From 2009 to 2013, IPS Testing has experienced a 60 percent increase in overall business through existing clients who required additional testing and new ones looking for services to meet more stringent quality, regulatory and sustainability standards. Its staff has also grown over 50 percent – from 40 to 65+ – in that same four-year period. Along with flushability, the company has added personal care testing capabilities.

Bruce Shafer, president of IPS Testing, said the expansion was completed to address three main objectives – creating more lab space for current tests, adding capacity to expand into new testing areas like flushability and maximizing overall efficiency. He said the addition meets all three. “We offer hundreds of different testing types and the expansion better positions us to accommodate them with more flexibility and add flushability to the mix. “

The expansion has also resulted in a larger paper and pulp testing laboratory to fulfill multi-purpose testing needs, as well as a larger parking lot to provide ample room for both visitors and the company’s growing staff.

IPS Testing serves as an independent testing laboratory for many industries including, paper, pulp and print materials; nonwovens; medical supplies; personal care and absorbent products; food packaging; and allied industries. IPS Testing combines physical and analytical testing along with interpretive data analysis to offer clients testing services that help improve and ensure the quality of their products.
