Historic Milwaukee, Inc.: Remarkable Milwaukee event honoring Conrad Schmitt Studios

Join Historic Milwaukee, Inc. for our 6th annual Remarkable Milwaukee event in honor of Conrad Schmitt Studios and the Gruenke Family.

Guests will begin the evening by joining the Gruenke Family and Preservation Specialist Eileen Grogan in the atrium of the historic Loyalty Building for the first-ever public exhibition of historic architectural renderings from the Gruenke Foundation for the Arts’ extensive collection of rare works. Following the reception the evening will continue in the Grain Exchange Room with a silent auction, served dinner. During dinner guests will be treated to a riveting program featuring over one hundred years of Milwaukee’s art and architectural restoration and the incredible story of Bernard O. Gruenke and his Family. Bernard O. Gruenke passed away on March 31st, 2012 at the age of 99, when he continued to paint watercolors and write poetry.

Conrad Schmitt Studios was founded in 1889 by the son of Bavarian immigrants. In 1953, long time employee Bernard O. Gruenke purchased the company, and today, three generations of the Gruenke family are involved in the business. Conrad Schmitt Studios is the largest firm of its kind in the country and has an international reputation of completing projects of enduring quality and beauty. Some major Milwaukee area projects include the Grain Exchange Room, St. Josaphat’s Basilica, and the Pabst Theater, to name a very few.
