Gilda Radner’s name and likeness will continue to grace Gilda’s Club Madison according to the organization’s executive director, Lannia Stenz.

“Over the past few weeks we’ve heard from so many passionate voices about how important Gilda Radner’s legacy is to our members affected by cancer. While we were never going to remove Gilda’s likeness from our walls nor her spirit from our mission, it became clear that however well intentioned, the decision to change the name of our club was not the right decision for our community.”

“We have been overwhelmed by the love and support that everyone has shown for Gilda, this organization and the good work we’ve done and will continue to do. As such, we are happy and humbled to announce that our name will continue to be Gilda’s Club and Gilda Radner’s iconic image will continue to help us welcome and support people affected by cancer.”

Gilda’s Club Madison offers a place where cancer patients and their loved ones find emotional support by discussing their experiences, asking questions and sharing their feelings in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Members come to Gilda’s Club for lectures, workshops, and seminars led by trained professionals or just enjoy some quiet time in the “It’s always something” room. Membership is free and open to men, women and children impacted by cancer. Activities are provided at no cost thanks to the generosity of many corporate and individual donors.

Gilda’s Club was founded in1995 by Gilda Radner’s therapist Joanna Bull, her husband, Gene Wilder and many of her friends. It merged with The Wellness Community in 2009 creating Cancer Support Community, a global network of education and hope, to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.

Gilda’s Club Madison remains a proud affiliate of the Cancer Support Community where our mission is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community. Learn more at GildasClubMadison.org or celebrate with us at Noogie Night on March 8.
