Program will award Edvest college savings accounts, Packers prizes

The Green Bay Packers will offer a new reading program this summer, “Leap into Reading,” which encourages children to read during the summer while giving parents and grandparents a chance to win one of 20 Edvest college savings accounts valued at $1,000 each along with prizes from the Green Bay Packers.

The program will begin Wednesday, May 29, which is 529 College Savings Day, a nationally recognized day to increase awareness among families about the importance of saving for their children’s higher education expenses. More than 200 Wisconsin public libraries will offer the “Leap into Reading” summer reading program.

Children who participate in the program will have a chance to win:

· 20 grand prizes of Edvest college savings accounts valued at $1,000 each (one winner in each region and three at-large winners)

· Four tickets to Packers Family Night, presented by Bellin Health at Lambeau Field (one winner per branch)

· Each winning library will also receive $500

The program is being offered in hopes of helping prevent “summer reading loss,” a cumulative condition that can put students two years behind their classmates by the end of sixth grade. The program will provide extensive enrichment activities related to literature that are often not included in schools because of time constraints. The program also helps keep kids entertained during the summer months, by providing supervised activities that are free, safe and educational.

Children can be entered into the summer reading activities and events at local libraries. Contest registration is available online at www.edvest.com/news/reading.shtml or at local libraries. The entry period runs June 1 through July 18, 2013. For more information and complete contest rules, visit www.edvest.com/news/reading.shtml.

“Leap into Reading” is sponsored by the Edvest College Savings Plan, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and the Green Bay Packers.
