Edgewood College: Board of Trustees announces presidential search committee

Madison, Wis. (October 4, 2013) – The Edgewood College Board of Trustees today announced the members of the Presidential Search Committee. The committee has been tasked with steering the search for the College’s next president. Last month, President Dan Carey announced his retirement, and will leave his position at the College in September 2014.

Jan Eddy, who will serve as the Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, retired in 2005 after twenty-two years as a software entrepreneur. In addition to serving on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for Edgewood College, she chairs the Student Life Committee. When not attending to College business, Ms. Eddy is actively involved in two angel investment funds and contributes to the community through other director positions.

Dr. Mary Elizabeth Bathum, Ph.D. is a recently-tenured Associate Professor in the Henry Predolin School of Nursing. In addition to being an excellent teacher, she has been deeply involved in issues of diversity and social justice. She has led students in study abroad excursions and is very active in the Greater Madison community.

Dawn B. Crim is the Associate Dean for External Relations at the School of Education at UW-Madison. She has served in higher education for more than twenty years, and has served on several executive level searches, including most recently the Presidential search at Madison College. Ms. Crim has served on the Edgewood College Board of Trustees since 2011.

Maggie Hopkins, O.P. serves as Vice President for Mission. Inspired by and aware that at the heart of all we do is relationship, she assists the President, leadership and the College community in the ongoing education and promotion of Edgewood as a Liberal Arts Catholic College in the Dominican Tradition. She chairs several College committees and is the VP for the Division of Dominican Life and Mission.

Mary Howard Johnstone, O.P. currently ministers as Vicaress of the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation. Since 2007, she has served as the Corporate Chair of Edgewood College, serving as a bridge between the College and the Congregation. She brings to the committee a background in law and education and a deep commitment to the mission of the Sinsinawa Dominicans and of the College.

Dr. Steven Post, Ph.D. is a long-standing, well-respected math professor at Edgewood College. He has served on the Board of Trustees, chaired the College’s reaccreditation self-study process, and chaired the College’s Assessment Committee, among many other service roles on campus.

Susan Serrault is the director of Facilities Operations for the College. She serves as the Chair of the Space Advisory Board, regularly attends meetings of the Building & Grounds Committee of the Board, and is a campus representative at neighborhood association meetings. Ms. Serrault is a graduate of Edgewood College.

Gary Schaefer has more than 38 years of banking experience, is very knowledgeable about the Greater Madison business climate, and is very active in the community. He serves as Vice Chair of the Edgewood College Board and previously chaired the Finance Committee. Mr. Schaefer also serves on the boards of the Oscar Rennebohm Foundation, the Madison Symphony Orchestra and Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce.

Ariana Silva is a senior at Edgewood College, double-majoring in Spanish and Latin American Studies. She has been an extremely active community member, currently serving as Vice President for AL@S (Association of Latino/a Students) and as a peer leader for the freshman COR class “Rethinking the U.S. Border.” Ms. Silva was the force behind 2012’s “Dying to Cross,” a visual and interactive representation on campus to raise awareness of the men and women who have died in their attempt to cross the U.S./Mexico border in the Sonora region.

The Executive Committee of the Board is reviewing consultant proposals to conduct campus listening sessions. Once a consultant has been selected, the College will hold listening sessions – facilitated by the consulting firm – with faculty, staff and student leaders as well as administrators and Trustees.
