Madison, Wis. (January 22, 2013) – Edgewood College today announced the launch of a new graduate program in the School of Nursing, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Leadership.

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree emphasizes the highest level of education in order to prepare experts in specialized advanced nursing roles. The DNP offered by Edgewood College is in indirect care; the emphasis in the program is on leadership in the Nursing field.

“This new graduate degree represents a dynamic response to the needs of Greater Madison, and the region,” said Dr. Margaret Noreuil, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Nursing. “Our community partners have recognized the demand for nursing professionals who are ready to address the challenges of an often rapidly-changing healthcare environment. Graduates of this program will bring the best practices to managing health services, enjoy command and competence in care systems management, and provide evidence-based care using translational research methods.”

Degree completion is targeted for two years from the start of the program with students taking two courses/semester (including summers). The 30-credit post-masters DNP program builds on the existing Edgewood College MSN-Administration program. Transcripts of students whose masters degrees are from nursing programs other than Edgewood College are evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure attainment of prerequisite knowledge and leadership experience.

Inquiries regarding the DNP in Leadership program may be made to Ms. Jenna Alsteen in the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Edgewood College at 608-663-4255, or at jalsteen@edgewood.edu.
