The inaugural Eastside Milwaukee Garden Tour, presented by the Eastside Milwaukee Community Council, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 28. The tour will feature 26 neighborhood gardens in the area bordered by North Avenue, Lake Michigan, Edgewood Ave and the Milwaukee River.
Planning committee member John Hickey stated, “This free event is open to the public to share the diversity of the East Side reflected in its homes and gardens. The gardens will feature: native plants, annuals, perennials, roses, vegetables, shade and container gardening, water features, organic gardens, garden art, and secret gardens.”
The tour is set for Sunday, July 28 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.; admission is free.
Other highlights include:
· Vendors of gardening related items and Master Gardeners to answer your questions will be located at the historic North Point Lighthouse (2650 N Wahl Ave.)
· Educational programs and a rain garden at the Urban Ecology Center (1500 E. Park Pl)
· A bicycle tour guided by Alderman Nic Kovac – 3rd District, starting at the Urban Ecology Center at 10 a.m.
· Maps for the event will be available at the North Point Lighthouse and the Urban Ecology Center on the day of the tour. They will also be available on the website site of the Eastside Milwaukee Community Council and the Facebook page of the tour.
Tour supporting sponsors include: Nord Construction, LLC; VIA Downer; Pizza Man; North Point Lighthouse; Urban Ecology Center; and the Cambridge Woods Neighborhood Association.
The mission of the Eastside Milwaukee Community Council (EMCC) is to gather and share information that enables EMCC to work in tandem with the surrounding community to establish effective policies to benefit our neighborhood.
