Discover Whitewater Series: Distributes $25,000 to local charities

Whitewater, Wis. – The Greater Whitewater Committee (GWC) debuted their inaugural Discover Whitewater Series on Sep. 22, 2013. The series featured a Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 5k and Fit Kid Shuffle through scenic and tranquil Whitewater. Race day, the GWC and Discover Whitewater Series Planning Committee were joined by 563 participants and 400+ volunteers for a successful event.

In an effort to build a stronger community, the Greater Whitewater Committee chose five local charity partners to receive the event proceeds. A total of $25,000 will be divided equally among Bethel House, UW-Whitewater Athletics, W3 (Working for Whitewater’s Wellness), Whitewater Unified School District to promote academic excellence, and the Whitewater Aquatic Center.

The Greater Whitewater Committee, Discover Whitewater Series Planning Committee, charity partners, sponsors and key volunteers gathered at the Whitewater Country Club for a thank you reception to review the event’s success and present the checks to the charity partners on Tuesday, October 22, 2013.

There were 90+ event sponsors, volunteers, and charity partners in attendance. Larry Kachel, Chairman of the Board of the Greater Whitewater Committee praised the involvement of the entire community, “

The city, school district, and university came together to make this event a true success.” Jeffery Knight, President/CEO of the Greater Whitewater Committee emceed the event and presented plaques to all the sponsors and the checks to the charity partners. Knight shared event anecdotes and recognized each group individually, highlighting the importance of everyone’s involvement, “Our charity partners provided much needed support and volunteers to help ensure this event’s success, each and every one of them absolutely deserve these funds.” Stacey Kincaid, the Discover Whitewater Series Race Director shared this with the group, “I am honored to have worked with all of the amazing people in this room, the success of this event would not have been possible without this team.”

The Greater Whitewater Committee and Discover Whitewater Series would like to thank everyone involved with making this inaugural event a success. The Whitewater community is a great place to visit, live, and work and we will showcase our wonderful community once again at our next Discover Whitewater Series on September 21st, 2014.
