Horicon, Wisconsin, January 9, 2013 — Winter has arrived in Dodge County with Mother Nature bringing more than a foot of snow to south-central Wisconsin — making way for outdoor fun. Come discover the flurry of winter activity in Dodge County, home of the Horicon Marsh, one of the largest freshwater marshes in the United States.

Winter and snow brings kids of all ages out to play. Beat the winter blues with Cabin Fever Fest on Saturday, January 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Crystal Lake Park in Beaver Dam. The Park is located along Hwy 33 one mile east of Beaver Dam. Join your neighbors in an old fashion community event with ice skating, sledding, tractor pulled wagon rides, a “Snowball Drop” Contest with a cash prize, Dutch oven cooking demonstration, snow painting, poetry contest and a chili contest.

The fun continues with the 10th annual WinterFest, Saturday, February 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Harnischfeger County Park located along The Rock River in Ixonia. Nothing lifts the spirits like a horse drawn sleigh ride through the woods, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding or ice skating with family and friends. The array of outdoor activities will also include a treasure and scavenger hunt, dog sled pulling demonstration, and “Dirty Kettle” old time stories and tipi tours. Be sure to bring your own outdoor equipment and take the free shuttle to the north sledding hill to blaze your own trail or skate on the pond.

Warm up with indoor craft activities for the kids, walk through the silent auction, or sip a hot bowl of chili or soup available for purchase. No entrance fee into the Park however some activities require a fee. Harnischfeger Park is located eight miles east of Watertown. WinterFest is hosted by The Friends of Harnischfeger Park with all proceeds benefiting the park’s improvement projects. For details on WinterFest call 920.386.3700 or visit http://www.dodgeparks.com. Harnischfeger Park is located at W3048 Crawfish Road, Ixonia.
