APPLETON, WI—(Jan. 7, 2012) Members of the Celebrating Abilities Awards Committee continue to seek nominations for the organization’s ninth annual Abilities Awards presentation in connection with this year’s Celebrating Abilities Night/Justin Hines Concert on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. The awards, sponsored this year by the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Inc., honor Fox Valley area residents and organizations that help make a difference in the community by enhancing the way people with disabilities can develop and celebrate their abilities. Two awards are presented each year by the organization.

“Celebrating Abilities is a very special night in the Fox Valley and we invite area residents to nominate individuals or community projects that they feel are great examples of Celebrating Abilities,” noted Jill Gretzinger, Celebrating Abilities awareness committee member. “We are looking forward to another successful awareness night and awards presentation.

Nominations for the awards will be accepted by Celebrating Abilities now through 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013. Nomination forms are available by contacting Jill Gretzinger via email at jgretzinger@wi.easterseals.com or Kara Van Vooren at kvanvooren@chw.org. Completed forms should also be directed to Gretzinger or Van Vooren via email. Forms returned by U.S. mail should be addressed to Easter Seals, Attn: Celebrating Abilities Awards, 820 W. College Ave., Appleton, WI 54914.

Award categories include: Organizations—recognizes formal organizations such as businesses, schools, churches and non-profit entities; and Individual—honors individuals who are making a positive impact in the community.

Nominees will be evaluated for recognition on the basis of the following criteria:

* Alignment with the Celebrating Abilities core mission and value – how does the nominated organization or individual enhance how people with disabilities can develop and celebrate abilities?

* Level of impact – what has changed as a result of this organization’s or person’s efforts? What is the size of the project and how effective is its impact?

* Nominees are aware of and have agreed to the nomination.

Applications will be reviewed by the Celebrating Abilities Awards Committee. Award recipients will be notified by February 11, 2013. Public recognition of award winners and all nominees will take place on March 12, 2013, during the public Celebrating Abilities Night/Justin Hines Concert event at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in downtown Appleton.
