AT&T: Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha receives $4,000 AT&T award to support teen center

Contribution to Help Club’s Youth Enhance Their Technology Skills to Be Successful in Digital Age

KENOSHA — The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha today received a $4,000 AT&T Innovation & Investment Award to help youth enhance their technology skills and be better prepared for college and careers through the Club’s Teen Center.

“The mission of our Teen Center is to provide our young people with the support they need to graduate high school with a plan for their future education and career,” said Ronald Stevens, Chief Professional Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha. “In today’s world, having strong technology skills is so important for success in both school and the workplace. This donation from AT&T will help us ensure our youth have the tech knowledge they need to be successful.”

The AT&T contribution will enable the Club to purchase technology and software needed for many of the Teen Center’s programs focused on technology. Those programs include Skill Tech I and Skill Tech II, which teach basic and advanced computer skills; Web Design, which teaches teens how to design and add images to web pages; and Image Makers, where youth learn how to use a digital camera.

“The Boys & Girls Club has had a positive impact on so many young people in Kenosha, helping them pursue their dreams and have better futures,” said State Senator Bob Wirch (D-Somers). “Donations from companies like AT&T are critical to helping the Club continue to carry out its mission, and I encourage other businesses and individuals to consider giving to the Club.”

In addition to technology programs, the Club’s Teen Center also offers tutoring, career development, college preparedness, job skills, financial management, fine arts and dance programs to 735 Kenosha youth. The Center is open to youth ages 13-18 from 4-8 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year.

“As a company, we are proud to support a wonderful organization like the Boys & Girls Club that helps our young people succeed academically and be prepared for the workforce,” said Tricia Conway, Director of External Affairs for AT&T Wisconsin. “Technology skills are crucial in today’s economy, and we are pleased to help the Club make sure our youth have the tools they need to excel in the digital age.”

The AT&T Wisconsin Innovation & Investment Award program provides funding to organizations and programs that improve the community by: advancing education, enhancing the environment, promoting economic development, or delivering other community services. This is the ninth award in a new program started last year aimed at supporting local organizations that enhance and give back to their communities.

The Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha has been a cornerstone of the community since opening its doors in 1992. Serving 8,000 youth a year, the Club provides a safe, structured and positive environment for young people and helps to promote health, social, educational, vocational and character development of youth.
