Company readies select state markets for 4G LTE service in 2012
BROOKFIELD – U.S. Cellular (NYSE: USM) continued its investment in its high-speed nationwide network by building 16 new cell sites in Wisconsin during the course of 2011.
U.S. Cellular, which has won 12 consecutive awards from J.D. Power and Associates for best call quality performance in the North Central Region, built cell sites in the following Wisconsin communities: Alma, Marshfield, Stoddard, Westby, Norwalk, Kendall, Bagley, Argyle, Sun Prairie, Lake Mills, Beloit, Waupun, Lebanon, Campbellsport, Cleveland and Washington Island (see map below). U.S. Cellular now has nearly 900 cell sites throughout Wisconsin.
The network enhancement is part of U.S. Cellular’s commitment to providing an ideal experience anytime its customers use their cutting-edge devices, including mobile tablets and smartphones.

To select locations for new towers, U.S. Cellular has teams of system performance engineers who drive through the company’s network coverage area, sometimes hundreds of miles a day, to test the signal strength and call quality. U.S. Cellular also listens to customer feedback to help identify the communities that would benefit from another tower.
Also, the company has announced the readiness of 4G LTE service in Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, Appleton, Kenosha, Monroe, Platteville, Portage and Sheboygan. Testing continues on the first 4G LTE devices to ensure that customers in 4G LTE markets have the best possible experience when the devices are available in the first quarter of 2012.
The 4G LTE network readiness builds on the 3G data services that U.S. Cellular customers already enjoy on the carrier’s high-quality nationwide network. Details on future waves of 4G LTE deployment will be announced at a later date when plans are finalized.
