MADISON, Wis. — Summit Credit Union plans to build a new branch at its 10015 W. Greenfield Ave. location in West Milwaukee.

The existing building, which is more than 40 years old, will be demolished in mid-August and construction of the new building will begin in September and be completed in spring 2013.

Member service at the branch will remain uninterrupted. Beginning in mid-August, Summit will be serving members out of a financial institution trailer at the location, which will be fully operational throughout construction.

“The new branch reflects Summit’s ongoing commitment to serving and bringing value to our members, as well as our support of the Milwaukee-area communities,” said Kim Sponem, CEO/president of Summit Credit Union.

“Constructing a new facility will not only address limitations of the current building, but also be much more cost and energy efficient than a remodel,” continued Sponem. “The informal and open design of the branch will feature teller pods instead of a traditional teller line, and overall will provide a more welcoming environment conducive to member conversations.”

The new construction also provided an opportunity for Summit to partner with the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau, which will be moving from the Waterstone Bank building across the street to become a tenant in the new building.

Summit has partnered with Strang, Inc., to construct the 3,300 square-foot branch, which will include a welcoming lobby, three cube-shaped meeting “booths,” a 1,500 square-foot community room with an attached kitchenette, drive-through teller area, a member service counter, as well as the 7,500 square-foot tenant suite for the BBB.

The exterior of the building will consist of a mostly glass façade, giving it a sleek, upscale appearance. A drive-up canopy will be integrated into the design of the building as well.

Summit will move into the new, full-service branch in the second quarter of 2013. There are no staffing changes planned.
