St. Croix EDC: Revenue Secretary Chandler will address St. Croix EDC Board

Richard G. Chandler, Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, will address St. Croix EDC’s board of directors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in the County Board Room, St. Croix County Government Center, 1101 Carmichael Road, Hudson, Wisconsin. The EDC’s public and private members as well as the general public and media are invited to attend.

Secretary Chandler will highlight the new pro-jobs state tax incentives adopted in 2011, and will also describe the administration’s initiatives to control property taxes, balance the state’s budget on a sustainable basis, and implement a broad-based job creation strategy. He will answer questions following his presentation.

About the Department of Revenue

The Department of Revenue administers the state’s major tax laws, including the collection of individual income taxes, sales taxes, corporate income taxes and excise taxes; assists local governments in property assessment and financial management; administers programs that provide state financial aid to local governments; estimates state revenues and forecasts state economic activity; helps formulate state tax policy; and administers the Wisconsin Lottery, which provides property tax relief for homeowners.

About Secretary Chandler

Richard G. Chandler was appointed as Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue by Governor Scott Walker in January 2011. His goals as Secretary are to: implement good tax policy, with particular emphasis on policies that will promote job growth; deliver good customer service to individuals and businesses; operate the department efficiently and effectively; and maintain a positive work environment.

Secretary Chandler has nearly two decades of experience in the executive and legislative branches of government. He previously served as the Wisconsin Department of Revenue’s Secretary from 2001-2003, and as Wisconsin’s State Budget Director from 1987-2001.In addition to his government service, he headed his own public policy and government relations consulting firm in Madison from 2003-2010, and practiced law in Milwaukee for five years in the 1980s.

Secretary Chandler holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, and a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School. He lives in Madison with his wife and twin daughters.
