Second Harvest Foodbank’s Partner Food Pantries Benefit

MADISON, Wis., June 28, 2012 – Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin and the Princeton Club announced that the 2012 Million Pound Challenge fitness and weight loss campaign raised a record number of pounds of food. After two years of coming up just shy of the target, this year’s campaign reached the million pound target just over two months into the five-month campaign. In 2011, the challenge raised 900,547 pounds of food.

“We’re proud to partner with Second Harvest Foodbank to end hunger in southwestern Wisconsin through the Million Pound Challenge,” said Dave Gerry, President of the Princeton Club. “To see the incredible excitement in getting fit while ending hunger was overwhelming. The fact that we met our goal so early in the campaign was thrilling.”

The 2012 Million Pound Challenge, which ran January 1 through May 31, had over 5,000 individuals and 246 teams participate. Lancaster Community Schools raised the most food of any team at 79,856 pounds and also earns the honor of top school among the 21 participating schools. Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital and Clinics and its 192 team members raised the second most at 76,124 pounds.
