RHINELANDER, WI – The newly remodeled Northwoods Center on the Nicolet Area Technical College campus has
just been awarded the prestigious LEED NC Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). SDS
Architects worked closely with Nicolet throughout the design and construction process to employ a wide range of
rigorous sustainable design and construction strategies that led to the award of this certification for high
performance and environmentally responsible projects.
The newly remodeled building will utilize more than 20% less energy, which equates to an 18.5% annual cost
savings, and 36% less water consumption than a typical building of this type as determined by baseline
calculations. 93% of the original envelope building envelope was retained for the finished product and almost half
of the raw materials used for these projects were extracted, processed and manufactured regionally.
