MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP today announced James D. Friedman, a partner in its Milwaukee office, will be honored with the Charles L. Goldberg Distinguished Service Award by the Wisconsin Law Foundation on October 2, 2012 during the annual Fellows of Wisconsin Law Foundation dinner.

The Goldberg Award honors Friedman’s lifetime achievement in the legal profession and his distinguished record of civic service and commitment to bettering the legal profession. He is being recognized, in part, for his more than 30 years of service as a founding member and Director of Partners Advancing Values in Education (PAVE), a non-profit organization which makes excellent educational opportunities available to low-income students in Milwaukee. Chief Judge Richard S. Brown, of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, wrote to the Wisconsin Law Foundation in support of Friedman stating, “I’ve known Jim as a person who has worked hard to broaden the educational opportunities of disadvantaged children and as an ardent supporter of our public libraries…he is everywhere.”

The award also acknowledges his dedication during his 40-year career to bettering the legal profession through his countless contributions to legislative committees, boards, advisory councils, ethics committees and the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Friedman is Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Practice Group. His practice includes the representation of financial institutions of all types and sizes and their holding companies, as well as manufacturers, service businesses and health care providers in a full array of corporate, transactional and international matters. He also advises businesses, boards of directors and independent directors or committees of directors in corporate governance, audit or transactional matters.

He earned his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his undergraduate degree from Marquette University. Friedman currently serves on the Board, Executive Committee and Audit and Finance Committees of the Wisconsin Association of Manufacturers & Commerce.

He is a resident and former Alderman of Mequon, Wisconsin.
