Quaker Steak & Lube-Madison: National Chicken Wing Day takes flight July 29

Quaker Steak & Lube-Madison Celebrates with Unlimited Wings while helping Second Harvest Foodbank

Madison, WI. People can celebrate National Chicken Wing Day, July 29, in a variety of ways. Maybe building a shrine to Teressa Belissimo for her magnificently spicy creation or possibly affixing wings of some sort to a herd of buffalo. But the best way to celebrate is eating the namesake wing, and lots of them.

Luckily, Quaker Steak & Lube, 222 W. Gorham St., Madison, will let this happen when it gives away unlimited almost-free chicken wings to celebrate the day that bears its name. (Full menu is also open to customers) The restaurant will require a $5 donation to Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. Second Harvest provides care and support to over 141,000 people in southern Wisconsin. Over $2300 was raised for Second Harvest Foodbank during last year’s first National Chicken Wing Day event.

“We know we’re going to go through a lot of wings that day, “says General Manager Thom Christenson, “And to also help Second Harvest makes the day even better.”

On July 29th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a $5 donation at the door, and purchase of a soft drink at the 222 W. Gorham St., Madison Quaker Steak and Lube location, customers can freely eat however many wings they want. Christenson even encourages this behavior by suggesting patrons use this as an opportunity to try out new takes on the classic hot wing recipe.

“Everyone knows what they’re getting with the classic ranch wing, but ones like Supercharged and Buckeye BBQ are unknown quantities. This will make them known,” says Christenson.

Ever since Belissimo put wings to sauce in 1964, America has had devotion toward Buffalo Wings. And it shows in everything from the annual “Wing Bowl” competition in Philadelphia the weekend before the Superbowl to wing-flavored chips, Americans cannot get enough chicken wings. According to a National Chicken Council study, Americans annually will consume 13.5 billion wings. National Chicken Wing Day further proves America’s devotion to the wing.

“With all the ways to enjoy wings, we think National Chicken Wing Day is one of the best, because it puts a drummy/wing into the hand of every man, woman and child who enters Quaker Steak & Lube, all while helping Second Harvest Foodbank,” says Christenson.
