Online registration for annual New North, Inc., summit now open

NEW NORTH, September 27, 2012 – New North, Inc., has announced plans for the ninth annual New North Summit, once again offering opportunities for businesses and attendees to network, gain insight to economic development work in the region and the state, and hear from business leaders on best practices for businesses of all sizes. This year, the New North Summit will be held on Friday, December 7, at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Appleton. Networking begins at 7 a.m., followed by the start of the day’s program at 8 a.m.

“We’re working on a strong lineup of speakers and valuable breakout sessions for this year’s summit, all revolving around our theme, Innovate to Elevate,” says Jerry Murphy, executive director of New North, Inc.

Online registration is now open. The cost to attend is $60 if registering before November 10. The registration fee increases to $75 after that date. Registration can be completed online at www.newnorthsummit.com.

As part of the registration process, attendees will be asked to select their breakout session preference. Five breakout sessions will be offered at this year’s summit:

Get a summary of the 2012 First Business Economic Survey results and listen to a panel discussion with local business leaders, led by Margaret LeBrun of Insight Publications.

Business & Education: Collaborations That Work
Panelists from K12, technical colleges, universities and business will discuss how to start and sustain meaningful collaboration between business and education.

Small Business and Entrepreneurship – Fast Forward 1.0: Innovation to Capitalization for fast growth
entrepreneurs Learn more on Fast Forward 1.0, the new program to locate and accelerate fast-growth entrepreneurs in the New North region from the program’s first entrepreneurs and mentors. This breakout will include information from regional angel investors and business advisors.

Innovative Sustainability: What we can we learn from our region’s best practices?
Northeast Wisconsin Education Resource Alliance (NEWERA) will present a panel of experts to discuss innovative sustainability best practices to save energy, conserve resources and reduce costs. The session also will include a special debut of the recent ‘Cool North Trends’ sustainability best practices project in collaboration with Cool Choices, New North and NEWERA.

 
New North Global Trade: An Innovative pathway to increasing regional exports
Paul Hampton, director of consulting at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, one of the largest real estate service firms in the world, will unveil the newly launched Northeast Wisconsin Export Strategy which includes action steps to promote expanded New North export operation.  Kevin Quinn, president of E.J. Metals, will co-present to highlight his company’s successful exporting experience.

The annual full-day event also will highlight innovative processes, products and people in the New North region. Along with the breakout sessions, the agenda for the day will feature to-be-announced speakers and panelists relating to New North initiatives.
