Milwaukee Press Club Endowment: 2012 high school journalism grants

The application process is underway for the 2012 Milwaukee Press Club (MPC) Endowment’s High School Journalism Grants.

Recognizing the importance of the advancement of journalism in the urban environment, the grant program supports education and excellence in journalism and the media in the City of Milwaukee .

Two $500 grants will provide funding to programs at public or private high schools located in Milwaukee . The journalism programs should be aimed at educating students about journalism, providing hands-on experience, and encouraging students to pursue careers in journalism, communications or a related field.

Student journalism organizations/clubs or academic classes should complete the grant application, which is available at http://bit.ly/mpc-2012hs , have it signed by an adult advisor, and submit it via email to Barbara Haig, bhaig@haigjackson.com , by the April 15 deadline .

In addition to the cash award, three students from each school and an adult advisor will then be invited to attend the Milwaukee Press Club Gridiron dinner at no charge. Pius XI High School and Messmer High School both received grants in 2011.

The purpose of the MPC Endowment is to support education and excellence in journalism and the media, including the endeavors and activities of the Milwaukee Press Club that align with that purpose, but also via scholarships at the high school and college level for students pursuing careers in journalism, communications or a related field.
