Festival to Benefit Madison’s UW Health American Family Children’s Hospital
and Henry Vilas Zoo

Madison, Wis.: A bigger, better, bolder 2012 Midwest Standup Paddle Festival will hit the shores of Lake Mendota at Bishops Bay Country Club Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 15, featuring lessons, demos, paddleboard yoga and clinics for all ability levels, plus a World Paddle Association-sanctioned race, recreational race and more.

Riding the waves of excitement from last year’s event—which drew a major crowd and world-class paddleboard racers like Chuck Patterson, Karen Wrenn and Jim Terrell—the 2012 Midwest Standup Paddle Festival offers a weekend dedicated to introducing newcomers to the fast-growing sport of standup paddleboarding (SUP) while providing a spectacular venue for racers to test their skills.

“The fest offers a wealth of clinics from beginner to advanced led by top board designers and paddlers in the industry,” says Gary Stone, owner of event sponsor Paddleboard Specialists, an online and mail-order SUP retailer with a retail showroom in Madison, Wis. “Plus, you’ll find the largest selection of paddleboards within 2000 miles to demo and super fun races for either participation or simply watching and cheering.”

“We’re excited to offer not only Madisonians, but also Midwesterners from all over the region and beyond an opportunity to become a part of the SUP phenomenon,” adds Stone. “While coastal regions like California, Hawaii and the Carolinas rapidly embraced the sport and have held competitions for years, it’s just starting to gather momentum here. The 2012 Midwest Standup Paddle Festival is the only event of its kind in this area.”

In keeping with last year’s philanthropic bend, a portion of revenues from the 2012 Midwest Standup Paddle Festival will be donated to Madison, Wisconsin’s UW Health American Family Children’s Hospital and Henry Vilas Zoo.

This event is open to the public, and all are invited to come join in the fun. Interested spectators, participants and racers can visit www.paddleboardspecialists.com for further details, and beginning April 1, 2012, can register at www.midwestpaddlefestival.eventbrite.com.
