Milwaukee, WI (May 4, 2012) – Michael Best & Friedrich LLP hosted its 24th Annual Labor and Employment Relations Law Seminar on May 3, 2012, at the Frontier Airlines Center. The annual seminar is designed to provide attendees with key employment law updates. More than 300 participants from numerous companies across the region attended, including Great Wolf, Procter & Gamble Paper Products Company, Rexnord Industries, Spring Window Fashions, LLC, ThyssenKrupp Waupaca, Inc., UGN, Inc. and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.

“The seminar was a great success; it’s always great to spend face to face time with our clients. Michael Best attorneys learned a great deal about how our clients operate, which in turn makes us better attorneys,” stated José A. Olivieri, Chair of the Labor and Employment Relations Practice.

Special guest, Marc Freedman, Executive Director of Labor Law Policy of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, offered a national perspective on labor law changes. A General Counsel panel, including: Janice Falkenberg, Milwaukee Area Technical College; Bram Higgins, The Salvation Army Central Territory; Dave Meier, Deere & Company; and A. David Stegeman, Michels Corporation addressed employment law issues from the in-house counsel perspective.

Workshop topics such as, “Do Sweat the Small Stuff – Little HR Mistakes that Can Lead to Big Trouble,” “From Application to Pink Slip: Social Media at Each Stage of the Employment Relationship,” “FMLA Toolbox: making Effective Use of Employer’s FMLA Rights” and “Labor Law – Emerging HR Challenges for the Union Free” drew the largest number of participants.

New this year, Michael Best incorporated social media into the seminar, encouraging all attendees and Twitter followers to participate in the event hashtag, #BestSeminar, throughout the day, not only by following @MichaelBestLaw, but also specific firm attorneys, @AmyHartwig, @StevenNigh and @MitchQuick1, as they reported back on key highlights from each of the 12 workshops. Seminar attendees eagerly joined in the Twitter conversation, which added a new dimension to this seminar.
