MADISON, WI, October 13. – On Saturday morning 60 elderly, disabled and low income families received a complimentary home furnace cleaning and check service, during the 25th annual “Heat’s On” project. More than 100 volunteers organized by The Steamfitters Local 601 and the Madison Area Mechanical & Sheet Metal Contractors Association spent Saturday morning fixing furnaces to both work and to run more efficiently which saves heating costs. Dane County Energy Service, Inc. selected the homes to service.

Police Chief Steve Davis greeted the volunteers at a breakfast Saturday morning before the furnace technician teams split off in fully-equipped trucks to service the homes. Chief Davis praised the “Heat’s On” program to reduce the occurrence of elderly and low income citizens going without heat or facing other life threatening emergencies associated with their home heating systems.

Local heating contractors provided the trucks and equipment used for the “Heat’s On” project and Madison area suppliers donated replacement parts for the furnaces.

Jim O’Brien, business representative for Steamfitters Local 601 stated, “Our members and contractors are willing to donate their time, labor and expertise on a Saturday each fall in order to provide homeowners in need with working furnaces.”
