Architecture and Experience Design Firm is One of Only Five Companies to Appear on the Great Place to Work® Best Small & Medium Workplaces List Every Year

MILWAUKEE – For the ninth consecutive year, Kahler Slater, an award-winning architecture and experience design firm, has been named one of the best small companies to work for in the nation. The company is ranked number 15 among small companies on the Great Place to Work® 2012 Best Small & Medium Workplaces list, published today in FORTUNE magazine. Headquartered in Milwaukee, Kahler Slater also has offices in Madison, Wis. and Singapore.

The annual list recognizes companies that have exceptional workplace cultures. In its ninth year, the competition is divided into two categories – Small Workplaces (50-250 employees) and Medium Workplaces (251-999 employees). Kahler Slater is one of only five small and medium-sized companies to have received the honor each year since the list’s inception in 2004.

Kahler Slater was selected among hundreds of companies vying for a place on the list. Applicant companies opt to participate in the selection process, which includes an employee survey and an in-depth questionnaire about the company’s programs and practices. Great Place to Work then evaluates each application based on five dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

“We are honored to again be named a best workplace,” said Jim Rasche, co-chief executive officer and managing director of Kahler Slater’s Singapore office. “It tells us that we continue to do the right things to create a workplace environment that fosters trust and teamwork while inspiring our people to do great creative work.”

Co-CEO George Meyer added, “To be honored by Great Place to Work nine years in a row is huge. Our culture and our employees have grown with the times. Our next challenge is to expand our informal mentoring program so we can prepare today for the next nine years of change and growth.”

Rasche added, “One way we’ve worked together at Kahler Slater to get through these challenging economic times is by fostering our creative culture. This is the way companies will remain relevant during the next 100 years.”

“The Best Small & Medium Workplace list grows more competitive every year and this list represents the best of the best,” said Susan Lucas-Conwell, global chief executive officer of Great Place to Work. “While each company is unique, what they have in common are strong cultures that support positive workplaces.”

She added that organizations that foster such workplace cultures often see such benefits as better financial performance, less employee turnover, higher levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty, more innovative and creative thinking, higher productivity and enhanced public perception.
