Promega was recently awarded Green Professional Status under the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council’s Green Masters Program. Corey Meek, sustainability coordinator for Promega, says that this recognition “echoes the progress of our Sustainability Program in that we realize businesses have a profound impact on the environment and biosphere. It is vital to our success that we be mindful of sustainability in order to maximize the impact our top line products have in providing innovative solutions to the world’s complex economic, environmental, and social issues.”

Promega was founded in 1978 in Madison, WI. It employs over 1,200 people and provides over 2,000 products to those researching solutions particularly in the fields of genomics, proteomics and cellular analysis. Promega now does business in 15 countries with over 50 distributors worldwide. It is renowned for its innovation and groundbreaking technological discoveries over the past several decades. The corporation recognizes the value of the Green Master’s Program, believing it “will lead to great environmental benefits as well as a more successful and sustainable business model.”

Tom Eggert, Director of the Wisconsin Business Council, says “the Green Masters Program allows us to recognize the outstanding work Promega is conducting in order to fully incorporate sustainability into its business model. The Green Professional status shows the standards to which Promega holds itself to and the possibilities moving forward.”

The Green Professional designation is the second highest tier in the Green Masters Program established by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. Candidates are judged on a comprehensive range of sustainability issues from energy and natural resource use to education outreach and purchasing. 94 Wisconsin businesses have participated in the program where the top twenty percent achieve the highest “Green Master” designation.
