The WI Sustainable Business Council’s Green Masters Program is proud to announce that Frito-Lay has earned Green Professional status. As a Green Professional, Frito-Lay Beloit has performed actions in each of nine “sustainability areas,” and has earned more than 100 points.

“Frito-Lay Beloit sets an example for other companies with its commitment to sustainability and how to implement sustainable business practices that support both environmental and production strategies,” according to Tom Eggert, Executive Director of the WI Sustainable Business Council. “Frito Lay has received many awards over the past three years; recognized as the first existing food manufacturer in Wisconsin to achieve LEED Gold for Existing Buildings Certification.”

Frito-Lay Beloit employs more than 500 people on its Beloit-based campus. In the past decade, it has reduced its dependence on water by 50%, natural gas by 40% and electricity by 17% per finished pound produced.

“The Green Masters Program has encouraged us to identify and implement new sustainability best practices at our Beloit, WI operation,” according to Mike Stahl, Director of Maintenance/Engineering. “We look forward to our continued engagement with the WI Sustainable Business Council and the relationships we continue to build with state industry leaders.”

The Green Professional designation is the second highest tier in the Green Masters Program established by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council. Candidates are judged on a comprehensive range of sustainability issues from energy and natural resource use to education outreach and purchasing. 94 Wisconsin businesses have participated in the program where the top twenty percent achieve the highest “Green Master” designation.
