Green Bay Packers, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield: Kick off school year with Fit Kids ticket giveaway contest

Fourth Grade Students Can Win Tickets to October 28 Game at Lambeau Field

MILWAUKEE and GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield are teaming up for the second consecutive year to bring health tips and stories from the team to fourth grade classrooms across the state through the Fit Kids program.

Green Bay Packers Fit Kids is a free year-long fourth grade curriculum for public schools in Wisconsin designed to promote healthy living by focusing on the physical, nutritional and social aspects of good health. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is the presenting sponsor of the program.

As a part of its support for Fit Kids, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is giving away 70 tickets to the October 28 home game at Lambeau Field to 35 fourth graders through an essay and poster contest. To enter the contest, fourth grade students from schools in Wisconsin must write an essay or make a poster that describes what they do to stay healthy.

Each winning student will be awarded two tickets – one for them and one for their parent or guardian who will accompany them to the game. In addition to the game ticket, the winners will also receive two passes to the Green Bay Packers’ MVP Party in the Tundra Tailgate Zone prior to the game.

Complete contest rules and the official entry form can be found on http://www.Packers.com/FitKids. All entries must be received by Friday, October 5, 2012.

Through the Fit Kids program and ticket contest, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and the Packers are working to raise awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles and to bring the positive health messages to Wisconsin classrooms.

“The health of our children is on the decline,” said Larry Schreiber, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “Too many kids aren’t getting outside to play and aren’t eating well-balanced meals. We’re working to turn this around and are excited to again team up with the Packers to teach winning health skills to last a lifetime.”

The Fit Kids curriculum explores a new health-focused topic each month, including: Get Together, Get Out, Get Fueled, Get Cooking, Get Moving, Get Bendy, Get Happy and Get Fit. Green Bay Packers players kick off each new section with a video encompassing the theme for that month and appear on various posters and program materials.

“Kids and teachers love Fit Kids because they get to hear about the importance of getting and staying healthy directly from our players,” said Cathy Dworak, manager of Community Outreach & Player/Alumni Relations for the Packers. “Fit Kids is an important part of the work we do in Wisconsin, and we are pleased to have a partner in Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield that shares our commitment to improving health and building bright futures for the next generation of Packer fans.”

Fit Kids was developed in 2004 by several educators in the Green Bay Area Public School District, with support from the Green Bay Packers, CBS 5 WFRV-TV and the Karma Group. Several other districts adopted the program for the 2005-06 school year and in 2006-07 the program rolled out statewide.

Currently in its ninth year, Fit Kids has been adopted by over 335 public school districts in the state, with thousands of students receiving the benefit of the successful curriculum. Within these districts, the program has been used by fourth-grade classroom teachers, physical education teachers and school nurses, and integrated into their lesson plans.

Parents, teachers and school district officials can learn more about Fit Kids and can register their classrooms by visiting the Fit Kids page on Packers.com (http://www.Packers.com/FitKids).
