Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce: Celebrating sustainable business practices in Brookfield and surrounding areas

BROOKFIELD, WI – The Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce will recognize local area businesses that are engaged in sustainable business practices at their Third Annual Sustainable Brookfield Business Day on September 25, 2012. The event is a program of the Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce, with support from the Waukesha County Economic Development Corporation (WCEDC) and the City and Town of Brookfield.

The Third Annual event, which runs from 8:00am – 10:00am, will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at R. A. Smith National, 16745 W. Bluemound Road, Brookfield.

Rick Smith, owner of R. A. Smith National, was recognized at last year’s event for steps the company has taken at their building on Bluemound Road. Among several practices, they have installed a wind turbine on the roof and have also installed solar panels. RA Smith will share with Sustainable Brookfield attendees statistics on their return on these investments.

The launch event was held at ESI in 2010; also know as Gateway West Sustainable I. The ESI project featured collaboration during the design and construction process which produced a showcase for practical sustainability centered on efficient use of resources impacting bottom-line returns. “Considering the current state of the economy and the business impact of efficiency and sustainability efforts, I believe the interest in our new facility derives from executives wanting to understand how improved building performance reduces operating costs, improves productivity and generates a measureable return on investment,” ESI President Paul Oswald says.
