FEED Kitchens: Major donation to benefit Madison school kids

Many businesses and individuals look for opportunities to make end-of-year, tax deductible donations. Myrtle Wilhite & Ellen Barnard have committed $10,000 to benefit the Food Enterprise and Economic Development (FEED) Kitchens and the children of the Madison Metropolitan School District, served by the Farm to Table healthy snack program. The donation is a match challenge within the FEED Kitchens’ crowdfunding campaign on Razoo.com.

“We challenge the community to join us by matching $5, $10 or $1,000 of our commitment that will put the finishing touches on the FEED Kitchens’ equipment list,” stated Myrtle Wilhite.

FEED Kitchens has the support of the City of Madison, Madison Community Foundation and a number of other major funders, and recently has been working with Glendale students to wrap-up the fundraising with a FEED Kitchens campaign on Razoo.com.

Glendale students and music teachers Martin Stein and Megan Moran sing the praises of healthy snacks in a new video on Razoo.com, a community fundraising effort designed to support the schools’ healthy snack offering.

“The enthusiasm of the kids and teachers for the REAP Healthy Snack Program is contagious. And we hope the video motivates others to join in the effort to build the FEED Kitchens,” according to Ellen Barnard.

Increasing the amount of fresh, local foods offered in Madison Metropolitan School District’s schools is a major focus for these students, the REAP Food Group and FEED Kitchens, a community food processing kitchen and food business incubator.
