Access to East Towne Mall will remain open

Pavement replacement work on East Washington Avenue, Madison, between Thierer Road and East Springs Drive, is scheduled to begin Monday (March 19). Initial work will involve the installation of temporary traffic signals and construction of temporary lanes in the median. The initial work will utilize temporary lane closures during off-peak hours.

Lane reductions are expected to begin April 10. At that time, traffic will be shifted to the northbound lanes. Four lanes of traffic, two in each direction, will remain open for the duration of the project.

Work is expected to be completed in late October.

The $5.7 million project will replace the pavement, which has been in place since 1970, as well as signals, lighting and pedestrian crossings. Dedicated bicycle lanes will be added.

Access points to East Towne Mall and other businesses will remain open. Motorists are urged to exercise caution in the work zone. Delays are likely in the area, including weekends.
