Wisconsin Tourism Industry: Honors heroes during year of the veteran

MADISON, Wis. (May 1, 2012) — From motorcycle rides to free overnight stays, to an entire trip to Washington, D.C., Wisconsin’s tourism industry has stepped up to honor America’s heroes and celebrate 2012 as the Year of the Veteran. In fact, the state’s hospitality industry offers many commemorative events, exhibits, specials, and ongoing programs to recognize and show gratitude to the nation’s veterans and active duty military personnel.

“Wisconsin’s tourism industry has long recognized the sacrifice and dedication that America’s Armed Forces have made to our country by making them and their families feel welcome and appreciated when they travel in the state,” said Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. “A special section on TravelWisconsin.com now makes it easy for them to find the many events and promotions created to honor them so that they can enjoy some much-deserved vacation time.”

In January, Governor Walker declared 2012 to be the Year of the Veteran and Wisconsin is committed to remembering the heroes dedicated to serving their fellow Americans. The following is a sample of the variety of ways the tourism industry celebrates American heroes.
