MADISON, Wis. — Governor Walker has reappointed Kathy Kopp, Executive Director of the Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce, to the Governor’s Council on Tourism.

“We’re thrilled to have Kathy stay on board as a member of the Tourism council,” said Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. “Kathy’s years of experience and wealth of knowledge in the tourism industry have made her a key player on the council. Her leadership role in establishing a long-term Travel Wisconsin Welcome Center model has been invaluable. She’s top notch in representing Southwest Wisconsin and will continue to be an asset to the council as we market Wisconsin and grow the tourism economy.”

Kopp is a native and long-time resident of Platteville, Wisconsin and has served as the Executive Director of the Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce since 1994. Kopp brings invaluable firsthand experience serving travelers as the Platteville Chamber is the tourism entity for the community of Platteville. She also serves as the President of Grant County Tourism Council and serves on the Board of Directors of the Tri-State Tourism Council which serves southwest Wisconsin, northeast Illinois and southeast Iowa .As director for the Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce, Kopp is responsible for coordinating tourism advertising and promotion for the Platteville community as well as focusing on business recruitment and development.

Kopp played a key role in the transition of the former State welcome centers in 2009, serving as Co-Chair of the ad-hoc group known as the Gateway Visitor Information Centers. She is now responsible for managing the Platteville Center, which is one of seven Travel Wisconsin Welcome Centers around the State. Under her leadership, the Platteville Chamber/TWWC became certified in the Department of Tourism’s own Travel Green Program in 2012.

She also serves on the boards of the Platteville Area Industrial Development Corporation; Building Platteville, Inc.; the Wisconsin Downtown Action Council; the Community Leadership Alliance of Southwest Wisconsin and the City of Platteville Tourism Committee. She also serves on the Boards and committees of the Grant County Tourism Council and the Tri-State Tourism Council. Kopp is a member of the Travel Wisconsin Welcome Center Committee for the Governor’s Council and also serves on the review committee for the Governor’s Annual Awards which are presented at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism.

The Governor’s Council on Tourism is made up of 20 individuals appointed by the Governor, hailing from all corners of the state and from a variety of occupations within the state’s tourism industry, to provide strategic insight and advisement to the Department of Tourism.
