Group Focuses on Badger State to Fight Union Corruption

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Center for Union Facts (CUF) announced a new ad campaign in Wisconsin to educate Americans on the benefits of the Employee Rights Act (ERA). Commercials – including “Repair Shop,” “Break Room,” and “Class Elections” – will run in the state on CNN and Fox News Channel beginning Wednesday.

The increasingly high-profile bill, sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Rep. Tim Scott (R-SC), is the focus of an ongoing $10 million campaign by CUF to educate the public about the legislation and promote the importance of labor reform.

“The ERA stands to benefit workers across America,” said Rick Berman, CUF’s Executive Director. “Union and nonunion households alike support the ERA’s key provisions that restore power to employees in every city and state in the nation.”

To date, CUF’s campaign has included the launch of http://www.EmployeeRightsAct.com, the release of a letter of support for the ERA signed by over 100 top economists and labor experts, and the release of Opinion Research Corporation International polling preformed on behalf of CUF.

The poll shows support as high as 83 percent in union households for ERA provisions like guaranteeing union members the right to hold recertification elections every three years. Currently, only 10 percent of unionized private sector employees have actually voted for the union representing their workplace, according to an analysis of data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Labor Relations Board.

“The ERA isn’t about opposing unions – it’s about ensuring that employees have a voice,” Berman continued. “We’ve seen huge momentum and results at the state level, and now is the time for federal reform to follow.”
