Cable Area Chamber of Commerce: Telemark Resort in Cable, Wisconsin to host International Paralympic World Cup again

For immediate release….

In an unprecedented move the International Paralympic Committee announced today that the 2013 Paralympic Biathlon and Cross Country Ski World Cup would be returning to Telemark Resort in Cable, Wisconsin; the same venue that hosted the event in 2012. The event is not typically held on the North American continent in concurrent years but a last minute cancellation by a European site opened the doors for the prestigious event to return to the U.S again this winter. The event will take place from January 13-20,2013 and also serve as the first qualifier for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Central Cross Country Ski Association (CXC), a Community Olympic Development Program and Paralympic Sport Club Partner will be the host agency. Yuriy Gusev, Executive Director of CXC stated ‘We had an exceptional competition last year with many national teams very happy with our event. We are honored to host IPC World Cup back here again and we are doing everything within our power to deliver an even better experience this year’. John Farra, USOC’s Director of High Performance for Nordic Skiing echoed Yuriy’s sentiment. “What an incredible opportunity we were presented with because the 2012 event was such a hit with all the other nations. For Team USA, this is a tremendous chance for our athletes to start their qualification for the 2014 Sochi Games, and for our Nation to continue to advance our program. We are all very excited to come up to Cable and the Telemark Lodge which were such amazing hosts for us last winter” Farra concluded. The State of Wisconsin recognizes the opportunity as well. “It’s an honor and a privilege to have the IPC Nordic Skiing World Cup return to Cable,” said Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. “The fact that this event is returning to Wisconsin for an unprecedented second year in a row says a lot about the state’s ability to host international sporting events of this caliber. We look forward to welcoming all the athletes, their families, friends and spectators back to the state.”
