WPR’s Larry Meiller broadcast to kick off Bayfield in Bloom

Next Friday, May 11th, Bayfield in Bloom activities will commence with a live Wisconsin Public Radio broadcast featuring popular personality Larry Meiller and his Garden Talk show at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion.

The public is invited to join the WPR studio audience from 11:00am – 12:30pm and ask questions of the guest panel of experts assembled for the live Garden Talk broadcast. In addition to the Larry Meiller show, visitors will enjoy a Bayfield in Bloom Garden Expo from 9:30am – 11:00am and 12:30pm – 1:00pm, also at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion, which boasts an exceptional view of Lake Superior and the Bayfield harbor. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and speak with horticultural experts and Master Gardeners, win spring-themed door prizes, and browse a variety of local garden-themed products available for purchase. Friday’s activities are free and open to the public.

This year marks the 10th Annual Bayfield in Bloom, running from May 11th through June 10th, 2012. Every year, 54,000 daffodils burst into bloom throughout Bayfield and the surrounding countryside, signaling the return of warm-weather recreation and the growing season at 14 Bayfield orchard and berry farms. Visitors can tour rolling orchards of pristine apple blossoms and a vibrant mosaic of roadside lupine and wildflowers as the season progresses. Numerous activities are offered throughout Bayfield’s month-long celebration of spring, many focusing on gardening and outdoor adventure, amongst the beautiful scenery of the Chequamegon Bay.

Ongoing events throughout Bayfield in Bloom include; perennial plant sales at Hauser’s Superior View Farm and Blue Vista Farm, Madeline Island Ferry trips, cruises of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, and Bayfield Heritage Walking Tours. Those visiting Bayfield will also enjoy the 6th Annual Chequamegon Bay Birding and Nature Festival, May 17th – 19th, a weekend of Bayfield Garden Tours on June 2nd and June 3rd and the Blessing of the Fleet ceremony on June 10th, honoring the rich maritime heritage of the Bayfield area.

Local businesses are offering lodging specials and spring retail Hot Deals as an added bonus for visitors during Bayfield in Bloom. A full list of Bayfield in Bloom activities is available for download on bayfield.org. Please call (800) 447-4094 or email erin@bayfield.org for more information.
