Arts Wisconsin, League of Wisconsin municipalities, Wisconsin Towns Association: Seeking nominations for fourth annual Arts in the Community Awards

MADISON, WI- Arts Wisconsin, in partnership with the League of Wisconsin Municipalities and the Wisconsin Towns Association, is seeking nominations for the fourth annual Arts in the Community Awards.

These awards recognize elected officials and community leaders and their championing of innovative arts, arts education and/or creative economy projects in their communities. Nominees and their projects should demonstrate ongoing commitment to the arts through local and regional business and government leaders; have broad a diverse community support, and creative approaches to integrating the arts with civic strategies. The awards will be presented to honorees at their affiliated statewide service or advocacy association conferences. At least two awards will be given this year, to an individual from a community with a population of over 20,000, and to an individual from a community with a population under 20,000.

Nominations are due (via email at akatz@artswisconsin.org) to Arts Wisconsin by 5 pm on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. The framework for applications are included at the bottom of this press release. The awards are scheduled to be presented at the 2012 Annual Conferences of the League (October 17-19, Wisconsin Dells) and the Towns Association (October 14-16, Green Bay).

The Arts in the Community awards are unique works of glass art designed and created by Matthew Heindl of Maatwerk Studio in Blue Mounds, WI. Previous recipients of the award include Lois Smith and the “Walls of Wittenberg” in Wittenberg, WI, the Hometown Gazette of Clayton, WI, Bill Schierl, President of the Arts Alliance of Portage County, State Sen. Bob Jauch of Poplar, WI, and State Sen. Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls, WI.

-Nominee and nominator contact information
-A description of the program or project, including a discussion of its objectives, goals, outcomes, and supporters
-An explanation of how the community, program or project addresses each of the criteria outlined

Optional attachments:
-Up to three letters of support from relevant civic, business or political leaders
-Up to three pictures/flyers/brochures/examples of promotional info.
