ARC of Greater Milwaukee: Changes name to Life Navigators

Serving the community for more than 60 years, ARC of Greater Milwaukee (ARC) officially changed its name to Life Navigators on January 1, 2012. ARC’s name and brand have been updated, but the mission and services remain the same.

Two factors prompted this change. When the organization began, it was known as Association for Retarded Children. This past reference to “retarded” does not fit with the agency’s vision that persons with disabilities should live active lives in the community. Also, using ARC has caused confusion with other organizations that share the same acronym.

ARC is grateful to everyone who worked so hard to create the new name and brand. Donating their services, Laughlin Constable and Mo Daly Consulting spent 15 months working with the individuals served, donors, staff, board members and agency partners. Through this work, they discovered that ARC is an empowering partner. ARC is here to help navigate. ARC provides true quality of life.

“We are so pleased that this new name and brand will carry us into the future. We are especially pleased to know that it was developed with input from the individuals whom we so proudly serve,” said Vicki Wachniak, Life Navigators executive director.

The new logo colors include bright blue, orange and yellow, which were inspired by paintings created by individuals with disabilities. The logo is a compass and a sun to indicate that individuals with disabilities have a bright future and that Life Navigators is here to help them navigate their lives.
