MILWAUKEE — Time is running out for elementary schools to sign up for the 2012 Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge.

A team effort by Radio Disney AM 1640 and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge is designed to motivate kids and families to achieve fitness together by engaging in fun activities.

Participants in the School Challenge are asked to “get active and get fit” for at least 20 minutes every day—or as often as possible. In order to successfully complete the Challenge, students must be active for a minimum of 40 of the event’s 55 days, which run from Oct. 1, 2012 through Nov. 24, 2012.

The contest is open all Wisconsin schools and classrooms from kindergarten through fifth grade. Registration ends on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012. Schools can learn more and sign up at http://www.getactivegetfit.com.

“Staying physically active is one of the best things you can do for your health,” said Larry Schreiber, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin. “By bringing this event to schools throughout the state, we’re working to help kids develop healthy habits to last a lifetime.”

All schools that send in their results at the end of the Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win one of five gym equipment packages worth $500. Schools with the highest participation will be awarded Radio Disney dance parties courtesy of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

In 2011, over 30,000 children at more than 130 Wisconsin schools took part in the Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge.
