Milwaukee, Wisconsin (January 17, 2011) — Janice Ahlstrom, health care partner, and Daryl Duenkel, manager, have been named to fellow status by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the premier association for leadership in the management of technology, information, and change in health care. Both Ahlstrom and Duenkel work in the firm’s Milwaukee office.

Members of HIMSS receive fellow status for their contributions to the health care industry and are chosen for advancement based on professional capability, experience, leadership, and service to their profession. Those individuals who advance to this status are considered leaders within HIMSS, recognized not only for past contributions, but also with the expectation of continued participation within the health care community and HIMSS.

The leader of Wipfli’s health care technology and management consulting services, Ahlstrom has over 30 years of experience in the health care industry working with provider, payor, and pharmacy organizations. She has an extensive background in strategic planning, management, implementation, and integration of enterprise health care systems. Janice has led numerous EMR implementations in both the acute care and ambulatory practice areas. She is CPHIMS-certified by HIMSS in Healthcare Information and Management Systems and is published nationally and internationally in the areas of technology and continuous improvement, leveraging Lean and Six Sigma approaches. In addition, Ahlstrom has coauthored a project management handbook. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), HIMSS, Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), and American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Duenkel has nearly 30 years of experience providing strategic planning, business alignment, system selection and implementation, and consulting services to health care organizations, assisting them to meet their business and technology objectives. His areas of expertise include strategic planning, business alignment, program and project management, enterprise system implementation, and information technology department management. An active member in several professional organizations, Duenkel serves on the Board of Directors of the HIMSS Dairyland Chapter and is an active member of the Project Management Institute. He holds a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) certification from HIMSS, a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute, and a Common Security Framework (CSF) Practitioner certification. Duenkel is also active in community and civic activities and is a recurring judge for the Future Cities competition.
