Winter Fest: Business, community leaders join Mayor Barrett, tourism officials to announce Winter Fest 2011

Festival to Feature Synthetic Ice Rink, an Attempt to Set a Guinness Book Record, and 10 Days of Family-Friendly Activities

WHAT: After 13 years in hibernation, a winter festival is returning to Milwaukee. Details of the new Winter Fest, including a schedule of events and activities, will be shared at a press conference featuring Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, executives with the Wisconsin Center District, state and local tourism officials, political figures and business leaders. The announcement will take place at the Frontier Airlines Center, where the festival will take place this December.

The Wisconsin Center District along with Professional Events and Consulting have teamed up to organize the 10-day event that will feature games, rides and activities, as well as a full-size indoor synthetic skating rink. The festival will be targeted toward families and will feature unique events and themes each day.

Winter Fest sponsors will be on hand in support of the event. The conference will share information on how other Local businesses can become sponsors and get involved.

WHEN: Wednesday, August 10 at 11 a.m.

WHO: Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will be joined by Dick Geyer, President of Wisconsin Center District, and Attorney Frank Gimbel, Chairman of the WCD, along with other Milwaukee Area business, state tourism officials and community leaders.

VISUALS: An interactive 16-foot snow globe will welcome press conference attendees. Reporters can enter the globe to be photographed. Children will be frolicking inside the globe while attendees enjoy refreshments and listen to Holiday Carolers.
