UW-Whitewater: Marketing students at UW-Whitewater host regional conference on branding

Students in the American Marketing Association at UW-Whitewater understand that branding is at the core of success when starting a business, selling a product or preparing yourself to enter the workforce.

They want to teach other students about the significance of branding in today’s world.

On Friday, Nov. 11, the chapter will host its fourth annual AMA Regional Conference on campus with the theme of “Branding in a New Age.”

“Branding is something everyone is working on,” said Liz Bartlein, president of UW-Whitewater’s award-winning AMA chapter. “We are also working on rebranding our chapter here at Whitewater.”

The conference will feature representatives from large companies that have successfully built an iconic brand worldwide. Erick Soderstrom, vice president of brand management and advertising for AT&T, will deliver a keynote address. Representatives from Apple and Harley Davidson will also speak.

The conference will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a career fair open only to conference participants. Among the companies represented are Northwestern Mutual, US Bank, Federated Insurance, College Pro, Sherwin Williams and Kohl’s. There will also be a number of workshops, including a sports marketing session with representatives from the Milwaukee Bucks and Green Bay Packers.

AMA is expecting 350 to 400 student participants. The conference is open to all UW-Whitewater students. Register online at http://www.uwwama.com or visit the AMA office in Timothy J. Hyland Hall, room 3009. Registration is $20.

All proceeds from the conference will go to Donate Life America, a nonprofit alliance that promotes organ donation.

The Warhawk AMA chapter won first place last year in the national Nintendo Case Competition and has been declared the Collegiate International Chapter of the Year six times.
