MADISON – Need a little inspiration to get outside and move?

If the longer days and warmer weather aren’t enough, UW-Madison’s Division of Recreational Sports can help get you started at its wellness expo, scheduled for Saturday, April 9, from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the Southeast Recreational Facility, commonly known as SERF.

“The expo is part of the Wisconsin Idea by inviting the community on to campus to get information on making healthy lifestyle choices,” says Lori Devine, fitness director for the Division of Recreational Sports.

Among the expo’s events are a walkathon for the American Diabetes Association, a Zumbathon fitness marathon for the American Heart Association and a fitness endurance challenge with prizes for the top male and female finishers. Area vendors will also be on hand to showcase wellness-related products and services.

The event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in Lot 91 next to the Kohl Center.

The first 500 people to attend will receive a free T-shirt and free samples of healthy food will be available to all attendees. Walkathon participants will receive a free pedometer.

The expo is part of the ongoing Wisconsin Wellness Campaign sponsored by UW-Madison Recreational Sports, which promotes health and wellness on campus and beyond. The campaign hosts such events as Wellness Wednesdays, seminars on campus to promote health and fitness; on-campus workouts for faculty and staff; as well as promoting fund raisers for the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, and the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
