MADISON – On Saturday, May 7, the School of Human Ecology and the Textile and Apparel Student Association (TASA) will host their annual design gallery and fashion show at Monona Terrace. Showcasing the work of apparel, textile and interior design students, the show is named “La Moda Processa,” highlighting the phases of design.
Ariel Arnson, TASA president and communication liaison between the many people involved in the production and execution of “La Moda Processa,” has been involved with this show for the past three years. For her final show she has helped tremendously in shaping the culture of “La Moda Processa”, as well as being a designer and having eleven pieces in the show.
“Last year’s show ‘Selvedge’ was a high energy and very edgy show,” Arnson says. “We wanted to change the mood and the atmosphere to create a softer, more intimate show.”
To highlight the large spectrum of work made in the textile and apparel design program, the show was named “La Moda Processa, “Italian for “the process of fashion.”
“La Moda Processa” will not only showcase students’ physical work, but also the process each student has gone through with basic foundation courses and projects to more advanced, innovative, and individual pieces.
After receiving a grant from Kohl’s Department Stores, TASA has been able to expand this long-standing tradition to include a class for running the show and moving it to a larger venue, overall making it a more professional show.
“La Moda Processa” is an event not just for UW, but for the Madison community as well. Students look forward to sharing their work with family, friends, local people, and potential employers. Arnson sees the show as a way for students to celebrate their major.
“I have put a lot of work into the fashion shows for the past three years, but the show itself is such a great reward,” she says. “I feel like this year’s show is truly a culmination of my college experience.”
Design 2011, a juried exhibition of the Design Studies Department, will be held at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. for ticket holders, however from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. the exhibit can be viewed free of charge. This gallery will display myriad works of art, ranging from weaving samples, garments, color studies, sculptures, and architectural models to digital projections.
“La Moda Processa” will be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for the fashion show and gallery in Sterling Hall room 132 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additionally, tickets may be purchased online at http://fashionshow.wisc.edu/tickets.html. There will be a reception following both shows.
